Excursion to the Post Office for class 1

To supplement what was taught in class, on 23 January 2019, the students of class I were taken on an excursion to the neighbourhood post office. The aim of the excursion was to introduce the children to how the postman and the post office offer us neighbourhood services.

The students were accompanied by their class teachers, Ms. Shikha Sharma, Ms.Sargam Sharma, Ms. Ishleen Saluja, Ms. Jagrati Kapoor and Ms. Shaweta Arora.

The excited children reached the post office at 11 am. They promptly pointed out the big red post box erected at the entrance to their teachers! Their teachers showed the children how letters are inserted in the post box and how they are carried away from there by the postman at regular intervals.

Upon stepping into the venue, the children were shown the several counters in the hall. The teachers explained the purpose of these counters. They even visited some of the counters as prospective customers! The children were told about stamps, inland letters, aerograms, parcels, money orders etc. and also shown samples of each.

Post Master Amit explained the various aspects of how a neighbourhood is divided into beats with the help of a map. He said this helps to ensure that the postman reaches the letters door to door. The children were particularly delighted to see a postman in uniform!

The teachers carried back samples of what the post office offers so that an effective recap could be achieved once the children were back in class.
