Excursion to the School eco park- classes 8 and 9

On 1st November 2018, a group of students of classes VIII and IX visited the the School eco park.

The students, accompanied by their teachers, left School bustling with excitement! The bus quickly rolled past the city limits and the buildings on the sides of the road gave way to open fields and village scape. This was interspersed by clumps of thick trees along the road and the Aravalli hills beyond them.

Soon we alighted in the eco park and welcomed with a gush of fresh farm air! It somehow felt unreal after the recent pollution- filled weeks in Delhi.

To begin with, the children played on the Burma Bridge, vigorously climbing and balancing. The freshness all around seemed to lend extra stamina to our young explorers! Row after row of neatly sown vegetables lay at our feet. Some beds even had plants hanging heavy with produce, ready to pick. These we harvested and filled in our cloth sacks just before we headed back! It was a really exciting activity, soiling our hands and collecting the fruits of our labour!

The science section of the park contained a series of life sized science models for a hands -on experience of the basic principles of Physics. The teachers guided the group around these, relating them to concepts learnt in the classroom. The children could be seen promptly trying a hand at these for themselves.

Some children played a round of football while others tried rock art to recreate the scenes of nature around them.

Before we knew it, it was time to board the buses again. Reluctantly we packed up to leave. We carried back an ecological experience to remember and a bag of vegetables for proof!
