Excursion to Traffic Training Park for class 1

An excursion to the Traffic Training Park situated on Baba Kharak Singh Marg was organised for the students of class 1 on Monday, 24 September 2018. The large group of 161 children was accompanied by five teachers of the primary wing- Ms Shikha, Ms Jagrati, Ms Sargam, Ms Shweta and Ms Ishleen and Meena didi. The purpose of the visit was to familiarise the children with road safety and traffic rules and to correlate the EVS lesson on Safety Rules in their textbook with the a real life experience of the same.

The representative of the training park accorded a warm welcome to the excited visitors and teachers. The group was escorted to the AV room. Once the eager children had settled down in their seats, a short film on the significance of traffic rules was screened. Thereafter, a traffic police constable introduced the common road safety signs and symbols using flashcards. He explained to his young audience the need for traffic signals and road signs.

The replicated traffic training park is a beautifully laid out model complete with metalled roads, zebra crossings, a foot overbridge, pavements and a subway. The delighted children were fascinated to be a part of a live demonstration by the park authorities on road safety and precautions. The instructor explained the need for the use of various safety aids like helmets, knee and elbow guards while riding a bicycle and an e-bike. The consequences of not following traffic rules and precautions were also discussed. The children engaged with much enthusiasm in the educational interface. The impressionable young minds were asked to carry home the importance of following road safety rules and measures.

Overall, the students were suitably empowered by this informative sojourn into the realm of responsible behaviour. It was a huge learning experience for the children, especially when they are exposed to the adults around them flaunting traffic rules with impudence.
