Ganesh Chaturthi
Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated with gusto on 19 September, 2012. The students of the Pre-Primary department had fun learning how to model miniature Ganpatis of plasticine. Teachers, Neha and Yashika, with suggestions from myself, fabricated a Ganpati using 2 different- sized clay pots. They, then, painted and decorated Him and seated Him astride a special mount, ( a bedecked School trolley!) ready to embark upon the procession through the School corridors.

Miniature clay Ganpatis presented by each section for the occasion were also placed aside the main idol, amidst heaped fresh flowers. 2 students representing each section, dressed in traditional attire and accoutrements, lined up alongside the 'rath' armed with a mini-harmonium, mini- dholaks and manjeeras. Soon a cry of Ganpati Bappa Morya rent the air and the pageant rolled out through the School corridors. Teachers and students stepped out of their classrooms momentarily for a darshan and some joined the procession. The chants and the tempo got more and more vigorous as the rath progressed. Accompanying it was a thali laden with til ladoos and carried by little sari-clad Maharashtrian womenfolk who offered prasad.
The tempo travelled as did the festivity, beckoning the blessing..
Finally, the pageant culminated at the pool where a single clay image ( not more) was immersed. To reinforce that the water body must be preserved and not polluted.
