Handwriting workshop
On Tuesday, 23 October 2018, a team of representatives from Cello, popular pen manufacturers, conducted a workshop for the students of class IX in the School auditorium. Fittingly titled Write to Win, the workshop aimed to make exams stress-free for high school students. The team explained various methods which conveyed a common message- Dont study hard; Study smart.
The first method, called the Mechanical Chain Method, focused on using the power of students visual memory. The students were provided with an activity sheet which had colourful diagrams and flowcharts. The mechanical chain method was explained using the example of types of angles. Acute angles were coloured in blue, obtuse angles in red, right angles in yellow, and so on. The right brain of students recognizes colour and hence, memory power is increased.

The Mind Mapping Method is a great tool to remember theories easily by arranging key points in a flow chart. Students found this method the most effective and enjoyed the activity conducted by the speakers. The students were encouraged to draw a flow chart on any topic from any subject. Three best flow charts were rewarded.
The third method, Mnemonic Chain Method was followed by another fun activity. A diagram of the Periodic Table of Elements was illustrated on an activity sheet and mnemonics for the 1st and 2nd rows were given. Students were asked to create mnemonics for the 3rd row and the best three were rewarded.
The Speed of Writing activity aimed at improving the writing speed of students. Students were required to rewrite the given passage in the space provided. The maximum time given to duplicate the paragraph was five minutes. A similar activity was designed to help students write 20 given words in a minute.
The last test was conducted to find the correct pen for each student present. They were asked to take their nail impression on the index finger and based on the shape of the nail, the type of pen best suited to them was assigned!
Finally, the team gave additional tips to recall and write better in exams. The students learnt the benefits of good handwriting. Good handwriting helps to communicate ideas effectively, learn well, and score better in exams.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the activities and were suitably motivated to improve their memory and handwriting!
