Hepatitis Day at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences

To create awareness amongst the general public, especially school going children, The 19th Hepatitis Day was celebrated at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, New Delhi on 4th December 2016. Various innovative programmes were organised on the occasion such as a poster making competition, slogan writing competition, quiz and skit.

Hepatitis B is a liver disease usually transmitted from mother to child during birth. To drive home this aspect, the theme for this year was Prevention of Transmission of Hepatitis B Virus from Mother to Child.

Over 15 schools from across Delhi participated in the event. Students of our School participated in the Poster Making and Slogan Writing competitions, as well as the quiz. Mehar Saxena (IX D) and Sia Bhatia (VII D) took the consolation prizes in the Slogan Writing competition.

Later, Dr. S K Sarin, Director ILBS, through a presentation, informed participants about the causes and prevention of Hepatitis B. From his own experience, he shared the numerous different types of cases he had encountered. He also mentioned that though Hepatitis B is a chronic ailment, it can easily be prevented with a vaccine, which is administered to the infant within the first six months of birth.

The event was well planned and seemed extremely effective in spreading the necessary awareness about the infection amongst the young participants.
