Honour at Kala Utsav, 2016-17
Kala Utsav is an initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to promote arts in education by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of school students at the secondary level in the country. It does not only showcase the talent of students, but also breaks many stereotypes by allowing the stage to be shared collectively by boys, girls, students from disadvantaged groups and students with special needs.
A group of ten students of classes IX to XII, from our School accompanied by Mr. Siddharth Dalbehra, Mr. Adhir Das and Mr. Gopinath Swain participated in this years Kala Utsav Folk Music Competition held at ISHANI, Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Saket on 6th October 2016.
There were three levels at the competition - District, State/UT and National. The categories for competition were Music, Dance, Theatre and Art. The theme of Kala Utsav was Living Traditions of Tribal, Folk and Traditional Arts of Different Regions. There were two steps for each competition.
Step 1 - Online project comprising of research work done by the participants on the art form chosen for the competition.
Step 2 - Practical presentation of the art form.
Our students presented a Punjabi folk song Challa, wherein a woman is talking to her challa or ring which her beloved has gifted her. The audience was overwhelmed by the soulful rendition of the song as were the judges. Our School was adjudged third at the district level.
The students who participated were:
Singers Chinmaya Iyer (XII-B), Saruby Sharma (XI-B), Chirag Singh (X-E), Shivangini Sharma (X-C), Milanpreet Kaur (X-B), Dhriti Chatterjee (IX-A) and Lakshay Gupta (IX-A). The instrumentalists were Karandeep Singh Kapoor (XI-A) on the harmonium, Sehej Singh (X-B) on the dholak and Raunak Maini (IX-A) on the flute.
