Honours at the 9th G.D. Birla Thought Conclave 2017, Pune.

The students of our School participated in a one-day inter-school THOUGHT CONCLAVE, organized by B.K Birla School, Pune, on 30th April, 2017. The conclave comprised of three events namely, Debate, Creative writing and Art Installation. The event was held to commemorate the centenary of Gandhiji and Ghanshyam Das Birlas association. Nearly 11 different schools from all over the nation participated enthusiastically. These included Birla School (Kalyan), Cathedral Vidya School (Lonavla), City Pride School (Pune), Mayo College Girls School (Ajmer), Singapore International School (Mumbai), B.K. Birla Centre for Education (Pune) and the Palzor Namgyal Girls School (Gangtok).

The conclave witnessed a plethora of activities and accomplishments. The opening kicked off the event to a grand start with the Principals address and a motivational self -composed song by the students. The occasion was graced by the presence of Creative Mentor, Mr. Parnab Mukherjee, as Guest of Honour.

The dynamic and spirited participants faced the preliminary round of the multi-faceted Debate, followed by the semi-finals and then the finals, which comprised of Turncoat, Extempore and the Block and Tackle format. Simultaneously, the Creative Writing competition took place in the library. This was followed by the Art Installation in the playground, where the participants applied their creative minds to compose an installation on interesting subjects like Void, Shunya (zero), AkaarNirakaar (form- formless) and Shape- Shapeless.

The post-lunch session witnessed a Trialogue in the auditorium. The topic given sought to develop and present a play combining the three elements: Epics, Conversations and Proverb. All the teams put up great performances. The last event was a quiz conducted by Mr. Mukherjee himself. The ceremony concluded with a fusion dance, the much awaited prize distribution ceremony and a vote of thanks.

Our students returned with many laurels. Debaters Avantika Chodha (XI-D), Saumyaa Saxena (XII-A) and Aatif Husain (XI-B), tool the Joint Third position. Avantika Chodha received the Best Speaker award in the Semi-finals. The art team which consisted of Sehaj Kaur Bedi (XI-B), Rishabh Bhatia (XII-D) and Vatsala Banerjee (XII-D) was announced winner of the Art Installation category! Vatsala Banerjee also won the individual prize for Best Concept in the Art Installation event.

It was indeed a proud moment for all of us and we hope we continue to strive towards excellence and bring more and more honours for our School.
