IIT Open House Day
On 9 November 2024, 38 students from classes 10, 11, and 12, accompanied by their science teachers, Ms Sumi John, Ms Ayesha Khan and Ms P. Yogeshwari, attended the prestigious "IIT Open House Day". This annual event aims to motivate young minds by showcasing the latest advancements in science and technology through demonstrations, discussions, laboratory explorations and interactive workshops.
The day began with a series of captivating lectures by eminent speakers. Mr Rajat Mishra’s talk, "Children: The Agents of Change" highlighted the pivotal role of the youth in driving societal transformation. Prof. Randeep Guleria’s session, "Healthcare: A Look Back, a Look Ahead" offered an insightful perspective on past medical advancements and future possibilities. Prof. Bhaskar Kanseri’s presentation, "Quantumania: The Power of Quantum Communication" enthralled the audience with the potential of quantum technologies in creating ultra-secure communication systems. Prof. Tapan K. Gandhi explored the intersections of neuroscience and artificial intelligence in his talk, "NeuroAI: The Science of Intelligence", shedding light on how AI draws inspiration from neural systems. The final lecture, delivered by Prof. Mohammad Ali Haider, provided a comprehensive overview of the IIT Abu Dhabi campus, reflecting IIT’s global reach and commitment to educational excellence.
The students also toured cutting-edge laboratories at the institute, where they engaged with complex experiments in the physics lab, bringing theoretical concepts from their textbooks to life. An advanced AI workshop led by professors from the IIT Computer Science Department further enriched the experience. This session delved into the transformative applications of artificial intelligence, focussing on large language models (LLMs) and their revolutionary impact across industries. Students gained a deeper understanding of the ever-expanding role of AI in shaping the modern world. Adding a fun and competitive element, a math game was organised, challenging students’ analytical skills and fostering teamwork. Two class 11 students, Dhairya Singh Bist and Madhav Sharma, emerged as winners, showcasing their mathematical expertise and strategic thinking.
The "IIT Open House Day" was a memorable and transformative experience. It not only deepened the students' understanding of science and technology but also ignited their aspirations to make meaningful contributions to these fields. They returned with newfound knowledge, inspiration, and a greater sense of purpose.
