Inaugural inter-house TED talk competition during Literary Week

On April 29, 2023, a TED talk competition between the 4 houses was held at School. The opportunity to compete was provided to students at all levels ( Primary, Middle, and Secondary). The jurors for the event were Vice Principal, Dr Anu Singh, and Head Teacher- Primary, Ms Vandana Tewari.

The competition was designed to provide students a platform on which to share thoughts, ideas, and opinions on diverse subjects and to get trained for a larger audience with international aspirations.

Globally, TED lectures are presented to enlighten and educate audiences throughout the world in an approachable manner. International scientists, researchers, technologists, business executives, artists, designers, etc., present "Ideas Worth Spreading" on the TED stage.

The topics chosen by the primary segment (classes III, IV, and V) students were age appropriate and relevant , like Kindness, Being a Proud Indian, Sustainability, etc. The young speakers shared their ideas on how they envision a perfect world and our obligations in shaping it. The speeches were delivered with enthusiasm and confidence. The judges were wonderstruck with the creative and imaginative ideas presented by such young children. Participants from the primary were Avika Bansal (V D), Amaira Kapoor (V A), Mehar Arora (VI A), and Kimaya Sharma (IV C).

The topics for the middle segment ( classes VI, VII, and VIII) catered to a variety of GenZ issues like Mental Health, Self Discipline, Stage Fright, etc. The students talked about how even a single person can make a difference in the world. They shared stories of people who have made a significant impact in society. The speeches were well researched and delivered with conviction. The judges were amazed with the level of maturity displayed by the young speakers. Participants from Middle School were Vasudev Awasthi (VII E), Mihir Pareek (VII E), Tanmay Virmani (VII D), and Sakshi Saini (VIII E).

The last round of the competition was for the seniors (classes IX, X and XI). The topics for the senior segment were distinctive, like Self Belief, Happiness, and What Makes You Special'. The students talked about how they have overcome challenges in their lives and the lessons they learned along the way. They shared personal stories that were both inspiring and moving. The speeches were delivered with passion and authenticity. The judges were heartened by the level of emotional intelligence displayed by the senior speakers. Participants from the senior segment were Rishima Dube (IXA), Viraaj Gaba (XI C), Tanisha Mehndiratta (XI A), and Nivriti Naswa (XI C).

The students exhibited confidence, creativity, and maturity beyond their years. The judges had a difficult time selecting the winners, as all the speakers were exceptional! The winners of the event were:

Primary - Avika Bansal (V D)

Middle - Vasudev Awasthi (VII E)

Senior - Tanisha Mehndiratta (XI A)

Though it was a maiden TED Talk competition, it was a great success. The teachers in charge of the event were Gurpreet Kaur (overall incharge) and Aarushi Rawat ( House incharge)
