Infinity Mathemagic, 30 August, 2013.
On 30 August, 2013, 7 students and their teacher, Ms. Sandhya Batheja participated in a Mathematics event at Delhi Police Public School. It had 3 segments for students of various classes and our participation was as below.
Category 1: Rangometry - Classes VI, VII & VIII - Devanshi Mehndiratta, Sidhant Bisht and Bhumika Narang;
Category 2: Model Making - Classes IX & X - Sakshi Lohia and Jahnve Gupta;
Category 3: PPT on the Usage of Mathematics in Daily Life - Classes XI & XII - Ayush Mallik and Ansh Kumar.
The judges were Mr. Ram Avtar ( Professor of Mathematics at NCERT) and Mr. S. S. Vashisht ( Principal, Kathuria Public School).
The students participated in all the events in great enthusiasm. Rangometry was based on the mathematical concept of Symmetry in Rangoli Patterns. The designs were a riot of colours made with various materials ranging from grains and pulses to paints, flowers, paper cut-outs and colour powder.

The ppts were based on the usage of mathematics in daily life. The most common topics were the application of Golden Ratio, trigonometry etc. in real-life situations. Our school had established an interesting link with Typography. Other innovative topics the were usage of mathematics in:
a. Telephonic conundrums, Coding-Decoding using matrices and Permutation and Combination in locks.
b. Computer graphics, Medical imaging, Robotics ,Protein modeling.
c. Business management, Borromean triangles, Area of Burj Khalifa, Rocket propulsion.
Attending the event was an eye opener for every one as the amount of information disseminated and the effort put in by each and every participating school taught something new.
