Inter school performing arts competition- Echoes 18 Naad Ninaad

A group of gifted artists of The Indian School participated in Echoes 18, an inter-school competition for the performing arts, hosted by DPS, RK Puram, on 5 May 2018. The teachers of the music and dance department, Ms. Shuchismita Chatterjee, Mr. Madhav, Mr. Gopinath Swain and Mr. Siddharth Dalbehera, accompanied the participants.

Our team of talented students participated in the following categories- Western music band, western dance, Indian dance, Indian instrumental music and Indian vocal music. In the western music category, our performers from classes IX-XII held the audience spellbound with Autumn Leaves, a jazz number. The ensemble consisted of one singer, two guitarists, one keyboard player, one drummer and one percussionist.

In the western dance category, eight graceful dancers showed off their nimble footwork on a medley of songs- "Swalla", "Worth It" and "Out of your mind". A team of eight dancers performed ethereally on a pure classical number Moksha (salvation) in Odissi style, in the Indian dance category. The Indian instrumental music category saw the rapt instrumentalists transported to the realm of soulful music, as they played Raga Bairagi in symphony, using the violin, flute, tabla and the percussion. The recitalists were given a choice between Sufi, Kajri and Dadra in the Indian vocal music category. The extremely talented singers were profusely praised by the judges, Ms. Padmaja Chakraborty and Mr. Manjeet Singh, for their rendition of the famous Sufi composition, Tu mane ya na mane dildara.
