Inter-School Sanskrit Vachan Kaushal Competition

The Indian School organised an Inter-School Sanskrit Vachan Kaushal Competition on 28 August 2024. The Prafull Foundation sponsors this event every year to promote Sanskrit.  Students of classes VI to X from 20 prominent Delhi schools, such as Delhi Public School, R K Puram, Vasant Valley School, Delhi Public School, East of Kailash, Tagore International School, G.D. Goenka Public School, etc., participated in the competition. 

The event commenced with the customary lighting of the lamp and the Saraswati Vandana. In her address, Principal, Ms Tania Joshi, stressed the importance of Hindi and Sanskrit in the global world.

Renowned Senior Journalist and Consulting Editor of NDTV India, Mr Sumit Awasthi, graced the occasion as chief guest and shared valuable insights with the students about the significance of both Hindi and Sanskrit in our lives.

The Sanskrit Vachan Kaushal Competition comprised two events: Kahani Vachan for classes 6 and 7 and Shlok Vachan for classes 8-10.

All the young speakers exuded confidence as they presented extravagant props and visuals to support their recital. 

In the Shlok Vachan Competition, the participants recited five verses of their choice from the Kathopanishad and the Shvetashvatara Upanishad. 

The esteemed judges, Dr Ashish Kumar, Assistant Professor of Sanskrit at IGNOU, Delhi University, and Dr Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Assistant Professor in the Sanskrit department at Dayal Singh College, Delhi University, were greeted by enthusiastic speakers and a vibrant environment, with each participant bringing something unique to the table.

The event could not have been more enjoyable, with captivating and moving performances from our young orators.

All the participants performed brilliantly, yet a few who stood apart claimed the prizes. The Prafull Foundation awarded cash prizes of Rs. 5000/-, 3000/-, 2000/-, and 500/-,to the First, Second, Third, and Consolation prize winners, respectively. The winners also received Citation Certificates. All the participants were awarded certificates of participation. The event ended with the school song presented by the School Choir. 

From our School, Yashwardhan Saini of class 7 E secured the Third Position for Kahani Vachan and Astha Kumari of class 8 B won the Consolation prize for Shlok Vachan.

CONSOLATION PRIZES: Abirami Ramesh, The Mother's International School and Astha Kumari, The Indian School.

1st PRIZE: Paraa Baranwal, The Mother's International School.

2nd PRIZE: Pehal Goyal, D.P.S. R.K. Puram

3rd PRIZE: Yashwardhan Saini, The Indian School.

CONSOLATION PRIZE: Neel Pawan B, Army Public School, Shankar Vihar and Alvira Seth, Vasant Valley School.
