Interaction with School Chairman on the Sepoy Mutiny for class 5

On Thursday, 3 December 2020, the students of class 5, were privileged to have an interactive session with our esteemed chairman, Mr. Prafull Goradia on the historic topic- Sepoy Mutiny. Principal -Ms Tania Joshi, Vice Principal, Ms Anu Singh, teachers and the ebullient students of class V were a part of this virtual online conclave.

After a brief introduction by Gauransh Kukreja of VA, the students spoke out their queries as they had recently studied the topic in their EVS class.

Sir patiently explained to the enquiring group of students how the East India Company, which was initially formed to trade with the Indian sub-continent, gradually became an agent of British imperialism and eventually led to the establishment of the British Raj, which continued for almost 100 years.

The discussion included pictures of the Enfield rifle that was the immediate cause of the revolt and engaging visuals from the old TV serial Bharat Ek Khoj featuring Rani Lakshmi Bai refusing to accept the annual compensation offered by the British in exchange of Jhansi. A power point presentation of the Mutiny and awe-inspiring scenes of Mangal Pandey's martyrdom were also shown during the session.

Mr Goradia reiterated the relevance and significance of the famous revolt by giving fascinating accounts of the bravery of our freedom fighters. The session was a deep plunge into India's audacious war against the colonisers. He showed old pictures, documents and other remnants of history, thereby eliciting keen interest in our history and fostering pride and nationalistic fervour in the young generation.

The visual of the poignant rendition of the immortal ghazal- Kitnaa hai badnaseeb Zafar, dafn ke liye, do gaz zameen bhi na mili, koo-e-yaar mein- by the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar was indeed touching.

As always, the interaction with Mr Goradia was highly informative, both for the students as well as the teachers, as it provided them new insight into India's glorious struggle for independence.

The heartening enthusiasm of the students and their eagerness to hear more stories from their learned chairman was indeed very welcoming. Mrigakshi Dhar of VB proposed the vote of thanks and thanked Sir for sparing his valuable time.
