International Painting Festival for middle school students

An art workshop cum competition was conducted by Springdales School, Pusa Road on 29 January 2020. The competition was open to students in the age group 5 to 14 years. Five students, Hitansh Kumar, Hrehaan Mothadaka, Oishee Haider, Gauresh Paul and Khanak Gupta of classes V to VIII represented our School at the event. Students from around 20 schools across Delhi marked their presence at the event. Some of the schools that participated were DPS, Sushant Lok, DPS, R. K. Puram and Bluebells School International.

The event was divided into three categories in which the students of classes 1 to 8 participated. In all the categories, a list of topics was provided to the participants. The list contained a variety of topics like Let peace prevail, Nuclear weapons create an unsafe world and Human Rights for all. The participants had to choose a topic from the list provided to them and create an artistic composition related to the topic.

The participants were allowed to use different mediums of painting. Our students chose watercolours as their medium. They created beautiful illustrations on themes related to World as a family and Human Rights for All. Khanak Gupta of class VIII-B composed a piece depicting a craftsperson, a rich businessman and a sweeper along with the picture of the Indian constitution in the background. Her work was appreciated by all. The other students also presented their ideas related to the themes chosen by them.

It was like a great learning experience for the students as the opportunity not only enhanced their artistic skills but helped them widen their horizons on the subject of art in general through an interaction with the participants from other schools.
