Punishment is not for revenge, but to lessen crime and reform the criminal. -Elizabeth Fry
Forensic science is the field of science that deals with investigation and criminology. It is all about collecting and analyzing evidence. In addition to this, the forensic scientists test the evidence to detect the guilty in both criminal and civil cases.
Students of classes IX and XI of our School attended a workshop on forensic science in the school auditorium on 10 January 2019 at 11 am. The resource person was Ms. Soushna Bagchi, Scientific Officer Truth Labs Hyderabad. The speaker held the audience spellbound as she shed light on the subject and her field.

Ms. Bagchi began by sharing her profile and the related job responsibilities. She is an expert on solving fraud and forgery cases relating to high-value insurance claims. Through a powerpoint presentation, the students were shown images of crime scenes, investigators, evidence, etc. The speaker focussed on different methods of analysing evidence and coming to an accurate judgement. Ms. Bagchi also shared her experience as a forensic scientist by discussing cases which she has successfully solved.
The workshop offered an exciting opportunity to students to know about different subjects like anthropology, toxicology, polygraph, DNA fingerprinting, ballistics, Narco, fingerprinting, to name a few. The session offered information on the diverse branches and the various aspects of this constantly evolving discipline other than murders and accidents! It was exciting to learn how this field can be used in investigating cases of cybercrime.
