Lingua Fiesta

Bluebells School International hosted Lingua Fiesta 2018: English Day on 25 July, 2018. The event beckoned young readers to the captivating world of classics that enshrine timeless messages connecting the distant past to the contemporary. The event encourages young students to read, ruminate and deliberate with other young minds.

Two events were organised as part of the Fiesta namely- Book Discussion and Film Review. This year the organisers recommended Henry James acclaimed novel, The Portrait of a lady ( published in 1881) and a 1996 film adaptation of the same novel directed by Jane Campion. 13 schools participated in the event. Our Jahnnobi Roy of class XID participated in the book discussion.

The event began with the enactment of a scene from the movie followed by an address by Ms. Hema V. Raghavan, keynote speaker of the day. The panel of experts comprised Ms. Neena Kashyap and Ms. Arunima Das, Professors. Ms. Nirmalaya Samarthya was moderator.

The event had young readers exploring realism then and now as depicted through the living-breathing microcosm of society, individual yearnings and enigmatic relationships. Student readers delved through the subtlety of humour and irony, of the entrapment of free choice and characterisation and came to their own realisations about enduring the challenges of life. They then presented fresh perspectives in the book discussion and the film review.

The participants spoke for 3 minutes and the criteria for feedback were content, presentation, linkages analysis and question round. The event concluded at 1 pm with the experts and moderator offering valuable feedback.
