Lingua Fiesta

Books facilitate knowledge and help in building up a child's vocabulary. Books not only provide an insight into different eras but also help in visualising things that are put across in words. They stretch the horizons and imaginations.

On 6th August 2016 the students of our School competed in an event where they had to speak on a book and a film made from the same book. The competition was called 'Lingua Fiesta' and it was held at The Bluebells School International from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm.

The school hosts the fiesta every year in order to give an opportunity to students to express their views on a particular book and analyse the movie adaptation of the same. The choice this year was a classic novel ' Far from the Madding Crowd ' written by Thomas Hardy in 1874. Special guest Professor Raghavan of Gargi College, spoke extensively about classical literature and its relevance in present times. There were three other professors of Delhi University who were invited to judge the event.

Eleven schools participated in the competition. Sauruby Sharma of class XI and Arham Mehta of class IX represented our School. Sauruby chose to speak about the book whereas Arham expressed his views about the movie. It was a treat to watch the schools speak on the same book and yet hold such different opinions and viewpoints. They were well prepared and spoke with a lot of enthusiasm and vigour. The movie and the book were critically reviewed as well. Some of the participants were so good that they surprised the judges as well and earned a lot of appreciation!

Our students did a fair job and were delighted to be a part of such a literary event and received special certificates for their participation.
