Literary Week In The Pre-Primary Department.

The youngest batch of the Indianites observed Literary Week in their own special way. To make learning more effective and to generate interest in the children on the theme of the year ( the states along the west coast of India), the children were introduced simple folk tales from the area with picture books. Basic dramatisation of the takes with role-play, voice-modulation and puppets were used. In the process the children got silently introduced to the cuisine, clothing ,dance forms , festivals, personalities and places of interest of the region. The display boards mounted in the theme in the classrooms heightened the same interest.

The story telling also helped introduce new vocabulary and pronunciation of the same. Besides a moral accompanied most of the tales and the same was reiterated with other examples by the teacher for better recall and retention by the children.

As an interesting conclusion to the week, the children constructed new vocabulary involved in baking cookies in the classroom! They measured the ingredients, they mixed and they whisked and tossed and they tipped as they prepared the dough. The hand-eye coordination too worked along as the children toiled! And not without reward! The teachers handed out delicious freshly baked cookies for the class during break!

Literary Week also involved showing the children how to look after their books in a neat and tidy way. The pre-schoolers were shown how their pigeon holes in the classroom were to be kept tidy.
