Making Mathematics Meaningful
A 3 day workshop from 14 to 16 February, 2013 was held at Sanskriti School as a professional development programme to discuss new methods and ideas which can be applied to 21st century learners.
Each day was split into 2 main themes ; the first session began with eminent speakers like Dr. Shailesh Shirali, Prof. Inder Rana and Dr. Amitabh Tripathi guiding us through important topic viz; Vectors, Three-dimensional Geometry, Combinatorics, Limits and general principles necessary for problem- solving. These hard core mathematical concepts were not only discussed through a series of problems tossed at us but were also applied to real- life situations reinforcing the utility of math in our routine life.
Post-lunch sessions were mostly devoted to acquaint us with upcoming techniques like Geogebra, Wiki-spaces and Graphic calculators, not only to make mathematical concepts easy to understand but also to make learning more interesting. Besides, keeping pace with dynamic teaching- learning requirements. Mr. Girish Belkar, Dr. Jonaki Ghosh, Ms. Rashmi Kathuria and Ms. Sangeeta Gulati were the resource persons for the same.
The entire programme was very well co-ordinated and offering opportunity for interaction to more than 50 teachers from various public and government schools of Delhi to come under a single roof and share ideas too. I came back renewed and refreshed in the subject.
