Math workshop at Ashoka University

The students of our School were invited to attend a Math workshop, How to count up to Infinity at the Ashoka University. The resource person on the occasion was Prof. Rajendra Bhatia and the event was held on 30th October, 2017.

Priyansh, Himani, Nitya, Gitansh, Ayushi, Samarth, Vatsal, Srishti, Arjun, Prachi and Gayatri of class XI and Manan, Divi, Vedant, Molshree, Diksha, Sangeet, Sanatan and Isha of class XII were accompanied by their math teacher, Ms. Pooja Mendiratta.

The session started with interesting anecdotes, to help relate easily to the concept of infinity in a fun yet thought-provoking manner. The biggest and timeless question about infinity that persist is how to reach infinity because whenever we multiply or add two numbers we eventually end up with a bigger but a finite number!

Addressing this problem, Prof. Bhatia presented axioms and theorems of well-known mathematicians and also introduced the students to the concept of Aleph Naught (smallest infinity).

It was an very interactive session where Prof. Bhatia answered queries of the students and also shared some suggested readings like What is the title of this book?-Raymond Smullyan and Alice in Puzzle Land.

It was a very good learning for all the attendees.

Ms. Pooja Mendiratta.
