Meet an author- Srijan Pal Singh

Three students, Uday Beswal, Vidhi Wadhwa and Shaumita Dasgupta accompanied by their teacher, Ms Suhina Roshangar got an opportunity to meet Mr Srijan Pal Singh on 9 August 2019 at Birla Vidya Niketan, Pushp Vihar. Mr Srijan Pal Singh is an engineer and management graduate from IIM Ahmedabad. While at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, he worked with former President Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam as technology and policy advisor. He has authored and co-authored various books with Dr Kalam, the most famous being Reignited. He has now authored a second version of the same book titled Reignited 2, post Dr Kalams death.

Mr Singh welcomed the audience and addressed them as future scientists, engineers, doctors and teachers! He talked about how he developed interest in science at a much later stage in life. He fondly recalled his memories with Dr Kalam and told us how and when he met him for the first time.

Mr Singh spoke about his current project which deals with looking at opportunities to live on Mars. He said that he and his team are working at a location in Yorkshire which is 3000 metres below the ground. There they are performing experiments on how Mars can sustain life. The topic caught the attention of the audience and all seemed to ponder on the possibilities of life on Mars in the year 2035.

A small clipping from the movie Interstellar further intrigued the children as they saw the role of Artificial Intelligence in controlling and operating satellites and spaceships. Mr Singh also talked about Voyager I, II and Astrobiology. After the discussion, Mr Singh answered the questions posed by the curious and ignited minds. He answered the questions patiently and explained several other concepts related to them. He then sat down to sign the books that the children had purchased and thus brought an informative session to an end.
