Middle School attend a hands'- on Physics workshop
On 6 August 2024, students from classes VII and VIII had the opportunity of participating in an enriching workshop titled 'Fun with Physics,' led by Ms Pragya Nopany, Founder of BVN-IAPT Anveshika. This engaging session was a part of our School Science Week and was attended by approximately 200 eager students who enthusiastically took part in a series of interactive activities and experiments.
The workshop showcased a range of captivating scientific phenomena:
-
Sound Production: It was demonstrated how sound is generated through the oscillation of water and air, and how varying air pressure within a pipe can amplify sound intensity;
-
Light and Colour: The dispersion of white light into its constituent seven colours was illustrated. It was explained how the scattering of sunlight makes the sky appear blue;
-
Refraction and Reflection: The students were shown how light bends when it passes through water (refraction) and how it creates intricate patterns when it interacts with a sieve (reflection);
-
Lenses and Images: It was explored how lenses can invert and magnify images, a principle utilised in cinematic projections;
-
Light Trajectory: Chalk powder was used to reveal the paths of light rays through scattering, providing a visual demonstration of light trajectories;
-
Magnetism and Induction: An experiment showcased how magnets can induce electrical currents in non-magnetic materials, affecting their motion.
The workshop's primary takeaway was the insight that an interactive approach to learning Physics can significantly enhance student confidence and foster a serious interest in the subject.
