Mindsmart Teachers Festival

The Mindsmart Teachers Festival was held at Moolchand Medcity on 2nd September 2016 from 9 am to 2:30 pm. The festival was facilitated by Expressions India, led by its Director, Dr.Jitendra Nagpal, Senior Advisor, Prof.J.L Pandey and Academic Director, Dr Divya S Prasad. All three are pioneers in their fields and have teamed together to give birth to Expressions India.

As many as 45 teachers from 15 different schools participated in the festival, which intended to give a chance to teachers to express themselves freely and discuss their vision of education. The Indian School also participated in this event. The event took place in the auditorium of the hospital and was divided into three categories namely Interfaze, Quiz and Potpourri. The first event required the participating teachers to introduce themselves and speak about two personal hobbies. This was followed by a question and answer round where the anchor asked three questions.

The second event was the Quiz was based on general awareness in different subjects. The third event was for art teachers where they were asked to draw what seemed to be their vision about a childs future.

The event began with a discussion between the teachers and the anchor where each teacher was asked to narrate an incident which touched her life. Based on the discussion some essential qualities of a teacher were put forth by the gathering at large. It was a very warm discussion which gave each teacher a chance to introspect and retrospect. There were even events like The Lemon and Spoon Race and Dumb Charades that were organized to avoid monotony and give teachers a breather. There was a warm-up session too by a counselor which added a whole lot of fun to the event. Mr. Pandey every now and then stressed upon the need of quality education and gender sensitization. He hinted in particular about the fact that the teachers are the ones who are responsible for shaping the future of the next generation. Therefore, it becomes all the more imperative on the part of the teacher to not just know the subject but also create awareness about the other things happening around us. A teacher is basically doing the job of a facilitator. She should ensure that the process of education is a two way communication where not only the teacher but also the students feel free to ask and express their viewpoint. The event was very well organized and the teachers enjoyed themselves thoroughly. It felt good to interact with teachers from different schools. All the teachers spoke wonderfully about their dreams for the future generation and discussed ways through which these dreams could be turned into reality. The event was not only an enriching experience but also a great learning platform. Suhina Roshangar
