Modem 2016

MODEM is an annual inter-school computer symposium at Modern School, Vasant Vihar. It was started with the aim of challenging the intuitiveness of students involved in computers and technology, through a series of events ranging from serious programming to fun-filled gaming.

On 24th August 2016, 6 students of our School of classes IX-XII accompanied by Ms. Nitu Kumari participated in MODEM 2016. The event saw the participation of 15-18 schools from around Delhi/NCR like Modern School, Barakhambha Road, DPS International School, Gyan Bharati School, Springdales School Dhuala Kuan and Ramjas School.

The symposium started after the inauguration ceremony. The chief guest, Mr Vibhor Jain, B. Tech and a young entrepreneur, addressed the gathering. He spoke about the Various Phases of Indian Tech History. He also encouraged students who are native users of technology to visualise start-up ideas and become young entrepreneurs of software-based companies. Following this, participants were escorted to the venues of the various events which were held in the different domains:

QuizBits Sukrit Gupta and Srinidhi Ayyagari of class XI participated in the quiz. It was held in two rounds prelims and finals. The prelims had 25 interesting questions based on technology for which the time limit was 25 minutes. The finals included a visual round, an audio round and a general awareness round amongst others.

Gaming This was the highlight and most chilled out event of the competition. Participants competed against each other and based on their points proceeded to the finals. Rishabh Bhatia of class XI was the gamer from our School.

Binary Fixation Participants Prakhar Gupta and Mayank Wadhwani of class XII used Turboo C++ to design three programs. This tested both their programming skills and logical thinking skills.

Debate-This event was an active exchange, a full on fight for a culminating decision! The theme for the debate was Awareness of 21st Century Technology where Aatif Husain of class X spoke against inappropriate or overuse of technology, and how the negative side can have serious and long-term consequences.
