Ms. Sangeeta Aswani, VP, PTA speaks on the occasion of Graduation, 25 January, 2014.

I have a lot of people to thank, sort of like what you hear at award functions-----but if you look back at my 15 year journey, today is no less than receiving an award ! So

Good evening everyone,

Today each one of us is crossing a milestone.

As a parent, we see the light of a day which was a distant dream years ago when we first dropped our children to play school.

As students, as children, you are finally coming to the end of school life, the end of having to wear uniforms and hopefully the end of PTMs.

As a school and as teachers, we are going to have to let go of yetanother batch of children who have blossomed from being little boys and girls to matured, responsible and educated young men and women.

As the head of the PTA, I have finally come to the end of my 9 year tenure.

My first Heartfelt thank you very deservingly goes to the management of The Indian School Mr. and Mrs. Goradia, Mr. Raisinghani, and Mrs. Brinda Shroff for all the time, support and effort each one of you takes to take to provide our children (and Me) with a warm comfortable atmosphere in school I feel I have handed over my child to a family not an institution.

15 years ago, I chose The Indian School for my son, a decision I have always been very proud of. Our children have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by a management and a team of teachers who have not only taken our children under their wing, but also brought out the best in them, taught them never to give up and most of all, they have never lost confidence in them even during the times we may have given up as parents. I can say this confidently as I have seen my own son grow from being an introvert from nursery right up to class 7 to being the Life Skills Captain, conduct surveys in Class 11 and display reasonably good leadership qualities. I am very proud of you Gaurav !

The credit for such miraculous transformations of personalities goes toour Principal, Mrs Tania Joshi-----like a candle, she consumes her own energy to spread light to others. From one mother to another, Thankyou maam. It is because of your faith that every child has a hiddentalent and your ability to help them identify those strengths so that mothers like me can hold their head high today.

It is impossible to name each and every teacher, parent and pta rep who has played a unique role in my life I feel fortunate to see all of them as good friends now so to each one of you, thank you from deep within my heart.

To my family, I express gratitude most of you are seated here without your support I would never be able to do justice to the PTA special mention for my father in law, who despite battling cancer for four years and constantly wanting me with him, he has never hesitated to change his chemo schedules so that my meetings are least affectedTo my husband, my ex-Indianite daughter and my son Gaurav --- thank you for alwayssssssssss understanding that my reason for being in school sooooooooooooooo often was definitely not ONLY for the coffee, but for my search to add more weight and meaning to my life. I hope I have not let you down.

And Children

No matter which road you choose

No matter how long it may seem

Let your heart be your guide along the way

If you want to fulfill your dreams

No matter the detours, the road blocks or dark nights

Continue your hearts desire

Lift up your torch and dont be afraid

To set the world on fire

You are the light of a new day

Shine for all to see

Carry your knowledge from this day forward

Blaze a trail for history

No one will ever be quite like you

Remember this important truth

We all have a purpose in life

And it begins in our youth

Who you are now and who you will become

Is determined by your soul

And with your dreams in your heart, and to lead the way

You can conquer any goal

Your parents have been working on you almost like building a ship a ship that has taken almost 18 years to complete concentrating on a sound foundation to help you differentiate between right and wrong, helping you to assemble your priorities and painting your life with vibrant colors so you value the life that God has been kind enough to give you. During all this, you were firmly anchored to the sea shore today the anchors come off and you will be launched into the sea.

From now, dont look left, dont look right, look only ahead becausefrom now theres no looking back. Be strong, be confident, be a fighter make a future for yourself with your Indian values intact. Do justiceto your education.. More than your parents and teachers, you owe this to yourselves
