Namaste Russia- a storytelling session on Skype for class 4E
The partly cloudy skies on Wednesday morning turned sunnier for the students of class IV E ofThe Indian School as they engaged in a delightful Skype session with MsInessa Dayanova, an English language teacher in Berdsk, a small town near Novosibirskity in central Siberia on 28 August 2019.
For her interface with the 4th graders, Ms Inessa chose the famous Russian folk tale, Kolobok or The Little Round Bun- one of the well-known gingerbread stories- the tale of the bun which comes to life and runs away from its home.

On her request, as a pre Skype exercise, the students were told the story of Kolobok withoutany illustrations or character details. Ms Martina, the young and resourceful class teacher let their imaginations grow wings and illustrate their impression of the central characters in the story- the bun, the grandparents and even some of the scenes!
The ground having been prepared for the story session, the excited students impressed theRussian storyteller with their comprehension skills, confidence and awareness levels andknowledge of Russia.
Rayaan Paul Sah showed a beautiful reproduction of the famous Faberge egg and shared the story of how the Russian Czar Alexander III commissioned this special Easter egg in 1885.
Ms Inessa was overwhelmed by the slogans and posters with unique messages, vibrantdrawings of the Kremlin, the famous Matrioshka or Babushka dolls, St. Petersburg and othertourist hubs of Russia.
Drishti Bainsla introduced herself in Russian and graciously invited Ms Inessa to visit India.
The Skype in the classroom session was an enriching experience that accorded the Indianites a view of history and folktales of a country which has been a long-time friend of India.
