Namaste Seoul: Class VB interacts with peers in South Korea

On 26 November 2021, the students of class VB and their class teacher Ms Martina Roy held a Zoom interaction with peers from the Pungsaeng Middle School, Seongnam, South Korea.

With bated breath and raring to go, students eagerly waited for the session to begin. The virtual session was curated efficiently by Korean and Indian students and their respective teachers, Mr Daniel Park and Ms Martina Roy.

Emcees Sehejveer Singh and Shubhi Yadav represented the Indianites, while Junhyeok and Ji-woo showcased the Korean side. They welcomed the schoolchildren from both schools and acquainted them with the cultures of the two countries. The imaginative power point presentation by Aaryan Sehgal made the interaction lively and entertaining.

The Indianites were keen to display their knowledge and admiration of popular Korean pop music and television shows. Led by Hitharth Kalsie and with the enthusiastic support of Kartavya Sharma, Aarna Aggarwal, Aisha Nayyar, Maryam Fatima and Yashita Dwivedi, the fifth graders presented an original rap song along with beatboxing in the form of a fun music video. The song was a tribute to the friendship between India and Korea. Jae-won from Korea continued the musical thread by rendering a Korean number, much to the delight of his Indian friends.

The Indianites also presented a foot-tapping dance performance on a medley of songs from the world-famous K-pop music band BTS (Bangtan Boys). The pre-recorded dance video, edited by Avni Pandey, received resounding applause, and the audience consistently cheered throughout the performance.

Mr Daniel Park introduced the language exchange session where students from both sides were encouraged to learn about each others languages. The students asked each other how to learn and speak both Hindi and Korean. Their interest and honest efforts left everyone impressed. Mr Park complimented the Indianites on their impressive display of sheer talent and appreciated their efforts for putting up the show in a short period.

The exhilarating session ended with the two schools agreeing to have more similar interactions. This engagement among young ambassadors will go a long way in promoting friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
