National Summit for School Principals- Building Resilience in school students.

Resilience is knowing that you are the only one who has the power and responsibility to pick yourself up.

The Delhi Chapter of this Summit was aimed at sensitising school principals to realise the need to build resilience amongst school students. It was attended by our Principal Ms. Tania Joshi, and Vice Principal and Senior School Counsellor, Ms. Sukhmeen Kaur Cheema.

The programme began with the speaker introducing the idea of resilience and its applicability in the daily lives of school students. He introduced its long term consequences on adult life, mental health, and the relationship of resilience with a positive psyche and robust relationships. The Biological Model of Resilience, the Psycho social Determinants of Resilience and the importance of Resilience for the brain were explained.

The schools role in contributing to students self-efficacy and self-worth, were emphasised. It was reiterated that schools also have a major role in inculcating positive parenting styles amongst parents of school students. Parents need to ingrain in their children a sense of belonging for ones school and a respect for ones teachers.

The interplay of Protective, Promotive and Risk Factors were also discussed. The idea of the Growth Mindset was introduced and some guidelines were named for enabling the development of resilience in the classroom and developing a positive school climate.

The other speakers introduced the idea of nurturing students from nursery through their school leaving years and beyond.

Faculty of the ARCH School Of Design, Apeejay Satya University showcased a presentation on The Design Thinking Process.

The presentations and talks during the Summit were very informative and will be used to empower all stake holders to achieve the objectives named.
