Naval Public school

Model United Nations' Conference On the morning of August 8, 2014, seven students, namely Vikramaditya Bhatnagar, Ahan Ghosh, Pranati Haldia, Yash Sharma, Shubham Airi, Hema Chakraborty, and Sriraag, of classes X, XI, and XII, went to the Navy Childrens School to participate in a two -day inter- school Model United Nations Conference (MUN). They were accompanied by their teacher, Ms. Charu Bhatnagar. On the way to the venue, the senior most students eagerly discussed lobbying tactics and a general strategy about going about business, with their juniors. Although anxious to begin with, the astute students soon found that, lobbying with the MUN crowd is, by and large, fairly easy! By the time the opening ceremony commenced, alliances had already been forged between countries of almost all the three committees the General Assembly (UNGA), the Human Rights Commission (UNHRC), and the Economic and Social Committee (ECOSOC). Over two days, Vikramaditya and Ahan, as a delegation of the Netherlands, participated actively in a heated debate on the extremely controversial topic of the militarisation of the Arctic in the UNGA. Shubham, Yash, and Sriraag, as delegates of Brazil, Ghana, and South Africa respectively, demolished the likes of Norway, Sweden, and China, when it came to an issue they were well versed with. Meanwhile, Hema and Pranati, as delegates of South Korea and Greece respectively, offered tough opposition to the others in their committee, the ECOSOC. It was an utterly enriching and rigorous exercise at honing our awareness of issues and of communication and converting others to our points of view. - Vikramaditya Bhatnagar
