On a Magic Carpet, Story- telling for the Pre-primary.
On the very pleasant morning of 25 April, 2013, the PRE-PRIMARY department had a story-telling session by the teachers. The teachers were ready with their resources and choices of stories. Hand puppets, flash cards, paper puppets, cut- outs, small props from home and the occasional character-costume were to be used. Bells and a drum beat in varied momentum were also at hand to assist the ambience.
Each story began and ended with a rhyme. The teachers used voice modulation and expression to tell their tales. Soon the children were wide- eyed in their wonder as the characters wound to life. They sat in rapt attention as their imaginations elevated and the sound and the setting strung them securely to the stories. Some of the stories used were THE PROUD RED ROSE, ROHAN AND THE MAGICAL ELEPHANT, THE UGLY DUCKLING, THE HARE AND THE TORTOISE etc.

The moral in each story was sought to be reinforced by a short interaction between the teacher and the class after each story. The children were extremely animated and the teacher was easily able to draw out from the children themselves, what she had sought to teach! The tryst with the tale had been triumphant!
