Orientation about the upcoming Ashoka University

On the 12 December, 2013, the students of classes 11 and 12 got a chance to attend an orientation by Ms. Sashidhar from the Project Team of Ashoka University. She had come over to introduce her university which is shortly coming up in Sonepath, Haryana .

Ashoka University is being founded in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania ( Ivy-League) and Carleton College, USA. It is being established by a group of like-minded philanthropists and successful business leaders. Members of this team have also been instrumental in the establishment of The Indian School of Business (ISB), ranked in the top 15 of the world in it's category.

Ms. Sashidhar spoke well and the audience listened carefully. She asked us a variety of questions to begin with, all of which were very relevant to the dilemmas and apprehensions that we students face upon the crossroads of life, as it were...for example, 'Why are we giving exams ?'

She highlighted some of the shortcomings of the college education system, how it contains our horizons to the particular subject that we choose to study and fails to give us a broader understanding about related subjects. Sashidhar also told us how, having an overall and generic knowledge about these subjects facilitates us to grasp our core subject better.

She told us about how her university makes studies more interesting and increases the student's overall knowledge and also helps in placements. An Ashoka education, she said, has many factors that will set it apart. It is founded on the principles of liberal education and has Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, Leadership at it's core. Here students will have the freedom to explore a wide range of courses across different disciplines. Students will choose their specializations only after they have been allowed to discover their interest and aptitude.

A wave of pleasant exclamations followed her telling us that Ashoka's was a' no cut- off admission'. She informed us about a world class faculty and team of mentors. We were sure that in future whenever we would have to choose a university, Ashoka University will definitely be in the list.
