Pratah Stuti for Gandhi Jayanti, 3 October, 2016.

As customary each year, a morning of Gandhijis favourite bhajans for our grandparents was organised at School to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation, on 3rd October 2016. This day is also observed as International Day for Older Persons throughout the world.

On the occasion, our students took a solemn pledge to offer their love, gratitude and care to their dear grandparents.

The bracing autumn mornings breeze offered just the ambience for this soulful ceremony. The large assembly of grandparents who had gathered was extremely heartening to our young performers as they set about creating moments-to-cherish for their beloved elders.

The programme commenced with one of Gandhi jis favourite hymns- Abide with Me, which the western music choir sang for us. This was followed by a presentation of the song You Raise me up by Karandeep and Pranati. There was also a short play that portrayed the evolution of nationalism and how our leaders with Bapu went about the critical issues that faced our nation. It surely managed to catch everyones attention.

The indulgent audience smiled tenderly as the students of pre-primary and class 1 walked up, dressed as the great freedom heroes, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lal Bahadur Shastri and others! They sought to remind us of the struggle, the sacrifice and their untiring toil to free our motherland.

The atmosphere resonated with the mellifluous sound of the senior school choir as they sang Vaishno Jana Toh and a few other bhajans with piety and spiritual fervour. The mood they set was just right and made the audience feel truly transported!

As Gandhi ji always spoke of the need to work for the hygiene and cleanliness in the country, a short film was shown on the efforts made by our students to clean up Defence Colony market as a part of our citizenship programme.

The Stuti concluded with our revered guests sampling a favourite breakfast from Gujarat- hot jalebis and gathia washed down with masala chai!

Happiness is when, what you think, what you say and what you do are in harmony, said the Mahatma. Our morning of homage was indeed a harmonious culmination of the observance of ethics, of kindness and integrity, of courtesy and respect for elders, an intrinsic part of our Sanskara Syllabus.
