Pre-Primary and Pre-School Annual Day
The Pre-Primary Annual Day celebrations, a most anticipated event of the year, was held on 20th December14 at 10 am on the School play field. Teachers, students and the support staff worked tirelessly to put together a giant stage and seating arrangements for nearly 800 parents! The programme began with a welcome by Gurmehar of class 5. Our chief guest for the event was Mrs. Renu Sharma, Deputy Director of Education.
This year, our School theme being The Western Coast of India, the presentation was a flamboyant pageant showcasing the rich and divergent cultures, costumes and traditions of the states lining the western coast of our vast country.
The show started with the tiny tots of PP Merak and Hercule showcasing Gujarat and its vibrant and vigorous celebration of the Navratras. A skit presented the mythological story of Goddess Durgas victory over the demon king Mahishasur and this was followed by an energetic garba-raas by the children in ethnic finery!
This spectacular opening act was followed by Magnificiant Maharashtra. The children of Gemini and Capella showcased love and respect for one's parents with a skit on Lord Ganesh and his brother Kartikeya. A rhythmic reproduction of the lazim followed.
The children from Orion and Delphini presented the famous Goa carnival. Tom and Jerry, Mickey Mouse and Charlie Chaplin mingled in the pageant amidst the rendition of foot-tapping steps and favourite Goan tunes.
The timeless values of being truthful and adhering to a Promise made, was conveyed in drama by the children of Leo and Kokab. Their's was an enriching tale based on the folk story called Punyakoti from Karnataka. This was followed by the adorable rendition of traditional folk dance forms like the Dholu Kunita and the Kolata. Last but not the least, was the state of Kerala, for which the children of Vega and Agena depicted the story behind the celebration of Onam, one of the most important festivals there. A medley of the delicate diya dance, mohiniyattam and the boat rowers' dance won an unstopping applause from the audience! Confidence, articulation and carefully synchronised performances of the tiny tots on stage reassured us, teachers and engaged our parents. Pride was writ large on the faces everywhere!
A happy vote of thanks by Gurmehar concluded the contentment of the morning!
Ms. Vinita Roy, Head Teacher.
