Prodigy 2015

Prodigy 2015, organised by Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies(SSCBS) is one of the most prestigious events held for Commerce students in the country.

On 6th November, 2015, a team of four students of class XII, Rohan Gupta, Mehar Kaur, Arjun Singh Jolly and Urja Chhabra represented School at Prodigy, which saw participation from the top 60 schools of the country. These schools were from different states like Rajasthan, Uttaranchal, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, etc. The chief guest for the event was Mr. N.N. Goyal, President, Communication Infrastructure and Multimedia (CMAI), which is the largest ICT association in India. In his keynote address, Mr. Goyal emphasised the need to capitalise on new opportunities. The convenors of the event also announced that new subjects shall be offered by the college for Commerce students shortly.

We cleared the online preliminary round where we developed a business plan for PVR Cinemas Ltd. incorporating its plan to expand operations in rural areas, considering the benefits and risks involved. After qualifying in the preliminary round, the team took part in the on-campus round which had two events, Acumen, a business quiz and Bulls Eye, the mock stock game. Acumen tested logical reasoning, quantitative abilities, business and general awareness of students. Bulls Eye, the stock stimulation game, allowed the participants to act as investors and buy/sell stocks of different companies based on news and rumours, for the maximum profit.

Rohan Gupta and Arjun Jolly participated in Acumen and Mehar Kaur and Urja Chhbra took part in Bulls Eye. We were enthralled to see that the market prices of most of the stocks purchased by our team sky rocketed!

We were delighted to hear our names being announced for the final 12 out of 60 teams present there to compete in the final round Corporate Stimulation. In this round, the students faced the 'real problems' of the corporate world which poses new challenges every hour. Teams had to develop an innovative product, present a SWOT Analysis and market it emphatically in order to survive the post demerger scenario. Our team chose the Youtube - Google demerger. Overall, it was an enriching experience filled with knowledge, creativity and enthusiasm. It was exiciting to know that our alumini Anubha Sagar, Mahima Batheja and Ojasvi Jain are a part of this prestigious instituition, SSCBS. We are thankful to our School for providing us such an opportunity. It is such endeavours that truly get us to realise that knowledge, indeed, is power.
