Recycling of Trash at School

As a part of the Citizenship initiative, segregation of waste is now being taken up in a serious way at our School. Students, teachers and the staff at School were shown a power point presentation on the importance and process of waste segregation. Each class is now to have 2 dustbins, one for recyclable and the other for non-recyclable waste. Students will learn to discern and segregate waste accordingly. On 21st April 2016, a friendly organisation that undertakes waste management, Pom Pom also conducted a workshop at School in this regard. They presented the fundamentals and benefits of recycling trash to the children of classes Pre Primary to V with a talk supported by a slide show. Pom Pom is a service that pays for recyclable trash. Their logo reads, Trash to cash! They convert recyclable trash into a raw form, which can then be used to create new products. They provide the service to industries and households.

At the workshop, Pom Pom advised students to separate household trash into various categories like plastic, paper, metal, glass and e-waste. These are to be disposed accordingly. They also described the benefits of recycling trash which include - keeping our city beautiful and reducing the burden on garbage landfills. They high-lighted the appropriate disposal not just of waste paper and plastic but also toxic and e-waste, which are extremely harmful to our environment. Pamphlets listing the various categories of waste were distributed amongst the students. By offering this service, Pom Pom not only helps preserve the environment but allows people to earn money simply by selling their unwanted articles and waste. The session created good awareness amongst students as they got a first hand view of the basics of recycling from experts in the field. Ms. Neena Maini.
