Rendezvous with A Renowned Detective Story Writer
Excitement spread among the students the moment they heard that author, Ketki Karnik, was going to visit The Indian School on 19th August, 2015 to speak to the students of ClassV. Everyone rushed to the library to find themselves a good place for the interaction. The waiting moments were over shortly and a brief introduction to Ms. Ketki Karnik was given by Deeposhri Dasgupta of VB.
Ms. Karnik writes detective stories. She writes about investigating heinous heists and conspiracy theories! She is a mystery junkie and sci-fi freak, she loves playing her guitar and eating chocolates. The Chinese Mastermind is her maiden novel.

The thoughts she shared with the children were inspirational, especially the practice of reading itself. She appreciated the session being held in the library as it was the best venue for laying emphasis on and talking about books. Her practical approach to creating interest amongst the children made the interaction engaging with a lot of exchange between the students and her. She introduced the main characters of her book and asked the students to find the culprit by presenting facts at the end of a logical process!
The students selected to be the crime-busters in the novel were Kaivya, Raima, Varun and Siddhart. At the end, there was a Q & A session and many children enthusiastically asked a lot of questions. How did you feel after completing the Chinese Mastermind?, Did you always want to be an author?.
Aditya Prasad Sahu of Class V-E, asked a very intuitive question, How can I tell the reader that he is the character of my book?. Another interesting question asked by Prithvi of Class V-E was ,How can a person enter or exit the room without being noticed?
At the end of the session, Ms. Karnik presented 2 books, one to the library and one to Ms. Neena Maini. A web-link was shared, for the students to be able to purchase her book online: www.eurekabookstore.com, venkatesh@eurekabookstore.com.
Apart from being enjoyable and interesting, this session was motivating and very informative for the students.
Ms. Neena Maini.
