Report Writing workshop for teachers
A report writing workshop was undertaken by Ms. Navreet Shergill, head of department, English on 29th June, 2018. The focus of the workshop was to refresh teachers about the art of report writing, which alas, often carries an air of a formidable exercise.
To demonstrate how a report can be written with ease, Ms. Shergill took us through the basics of writing a report, including information that needs to be delivered. She explained that only relevant and important information is to be penned down for a report.
Ms. Shergill elucidated some important points to be kept in mind while writing a report-
-The report shall be factual in nature and written in third person.
- Generally the past tense should be used.
- There should be no bias in the language used, on the contrary it should be neutral.
- Strong adjectives or ornamental language should be avoided.
- The report shall be written in passive voice.
-The report should be concise and crisp.
The workshop was not just a lecture but also an exercise in itself. To make it more interesting and to illustrate the process for ourselves, we were given to write a mock report. This practice report writing refreshed the key points that need to be kept in mind. Later, we were also shown a sample report to examine our progress to clarify doubts.
The experience prompted teachers to reminisce the exercise as learnt at school! The teachers felt better prepared with the tips learnt. It had been made clear and comfortable.
