Rosalind Wilson Memorial Book Discussion

The journey of a lifetime starts with the turning of a page- Rachel Anders.

The Rosalind Wilson Memorial Book Discussion was held at Springdales School, Pusa Road on 19th November 2016. A team of 5 students of class XI represented our School at the event which is held in remembrance of Ms. Rosalind Wilson, faculty member of Springdales School and one who always encouraged reading, writing and discussion amongst her students.

George Orwells 1984 was the book chosen for the day. Our team included Simran Narula and Saumyaa Saxena as speakers, and Vatsala Banerjee, Shubhangi Arora and Bhumika Narang as observers. 24 schools from across Delhi and the NCR participated in the discussion.

The discussion encompassed various aspects of the book such as totalitarian governments, continued surveillance of the public and Big Brother autocratic regimes. The students interacted with other participants and contemplated on the relevance and validity of such themes in modern times. The power and responsibility of the media during times of national crisis and the motivators underlying human behaviour, were also themes taken up during the discussion.

The students level of awareness and the confidence with which they pleaded their points to carry forward the discussion were noteworthy.
