SANSKRIT VACHAN KAUSHAL COMPETITION

An Inter School Sanskrit Vachan Kaushal Competition was organised by The Indian School on 24 August 2023. This event was sponsored by the Prafull Foundation to promote the Sanskrit language. Students from about twenty-two schools of Delhi and NCR like Delhi Public School, R K Puram, Vasant Valley School, Birla Vidya Niketan, Tagore International School, G.D. Goenka Public School, etc participated in the competition. Renowned linguist and former professor and chairperson of the Sanskrit Department of Delhi University, as well as the former director of the National Manuscript Mission of the Government of India, Professor Deepti Tripathi, graced the occasion as chief guest. The judges for the competition were Dr. Narayan Dutt Mishra, Chief Editor of Vaartaavali and Anchor (Sanskrit Desk), and Ms. Mayuri Jha, Professor, Maitreyi College, University of Delhi.

The event commenced with the customary lighting of the lamp which was followed by Shlok Gayan. Principal, Ms Tania Joshi addressed the gathering. She spoke about the importance of Sanskrit in the global world.

The competition comprised of two events. In the first event, five shlokas from the second and sixth chapters of the Shrimad Bhagwad Gita were recited by the students of classes VI and VII. The enlightening shlokas were

which means For those whose minds are always absorbed in Me, and who engage in devotion to Me with great faith, I consider them to be the highest of all.

The second shloka means The mind is a friend to those who have conquered it. For those who have failed to do so, the mind works like an enemy.

In the second event, the students of classes VIII, IX and X presented Sambhashan in Sanskrit, with the help of visual aids.

All the participants performed brilliantly, yet a few who stood apart, claimed the prizes. The First, Second, Third, and visualization prize winners were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 5000/-, 3000/-, 2000/-, and 500/- respectively by the Prafull Foundation, and all participants were felicitated with certificates for their participation.

The event ended with the school song presented by the School choir.
