School chairperson Mr Goradia interacts with class 9 on the Manipur crisis

Never failing to enlighten the students with his diverse experiences, our chairman, Mr Prafull Goradia shares his vast reserve of knowledge with students at regular intervals. These lively interactions provide valuable insights to students as they are exposed to significant issues of social, historical, political and economic importance.

The students of class IX attended one such talk by Mr Prafull Goradia, on 1 August 2023, in the School hall. The topic for discussion was the Manipur Crisis.

The talk aimed to shed light on the recent ethnic violence that has erupted in India's north-eastern state, which has been a cause of concern for the entire nation. Mr Goradia began by providing information on the demographics and historical background of Manipur, talking in detail about the different ethnic groups such as the Meiteis, the Nagas and the Kukis.

Talking about the latest flare-up, he explained how tensions escalated when the Kukis began protesting against the demand of the Meiteis to also be given an official tribal status. The Kukis argued that this would strengthen the Meiteis who are already of strong influence, allowing them to buy land or settle in predominantly Kuki areas.

Mr Goradia spoke about other underlying reasons for the dispute like the drugs issue and illegal migration from Myanmar.

He also touched upon the impact of the ongoing crisis on the financial state of our neighbouring countries like Pakistan in the West, Sri Lanka in the South and China, Bangladesh and Myanmar in the North-East.

The informative and interactive session ended with Mr Goradia responding to the students queries. The students were extremely interactive during the session. They left the venue with a better insight of the Manipur crisis.
