On 20 August 2026, as a part of the ongoing Science Week at School, the students of Classes 6-8 had the opportunity to attend an insightful and interactive session on Medical Tourism, conducted by Dr Paramita Suklabaidya, Professor of Tourism Management at IGNOU and former Director of the School of Tourism and Hospitality Services Management. Dr Suklabaidya introduced the students to the fascinating and rapidly growing field of medical tourism and its relevance in today’s world.
The session explored the meaning, causes, advantages and challenges of medical tourism, with particular emphasis on India’s position as a leading destination for international healthcare. Students learnt why people from different countries travel to India for medical treatment, including access to skilled medical professionals, advanced healthcare facilities, quality services and comparatively affordable treatments. The discussion also highlighted India’s rich traditions of Ayurveda, Yoga and other systems of wellness, including homoeopathy, and how these contribute to the country’s appeal as a healthcare and wellness destination. Through interesting facts, examples and real-world insights, Dr Suklabaidya helped the young audience understand how medical tourism brings together science, healthcare, travel, hospitality and economics.
The session was highly interactive and engaging, with students enthusiastically answering questions and putting forth their own queries. Their active participation and curiosity made the session meaningful and helped them gain a better understanding of the topic.
