Science Week talk by an expert on migratory birds for Classes 5 and 6

Exploring the Fascinating World of Bird Migration

As part of Science Week'26, School had the privilege of hosting Dr Binoda Chandra Sabata, an eminent environmental scientist and biodiversity researcher, for an enriching and insightful session with the students of Classes V and VI on 18th August.

The session focused on the fascinating phenomenon of bird migration. Dr Sabata introduced the students to a variety of birds and shared extensive knowledge about their migration patterns and routes, helping them understand how birds travel across different regions and environments. His engaging explanations encouraged students to look beyond birds as merely beautiful creatures and appreciate their remarkable connection with nature, ecosystems, and environmental conditions.

An especially interesting part of the session was Dr Sabata's introduction to Ramsar Sites, which was a new and intriguing concept for many students. The discussion helped them to understand the importance of wetlands as a significant habitat for migratory birds and highlighted the need to protect such natural ecosystems.

The session was a wonderful blend of scientific knowledge, environmental awareness, and curiosity, leaving students with a deeper appreciation for the incredible journeys undertaken by migratory birds. It was an enriching learning experience that encouraged our young learners to observe, explore, and develop greater responsibility towards the natural world.

Dr Sabata was particularly impressed by the students’ enthusiasm and awareness of bird migration. He appreciated the fact that many students were already familiar with the phenomenon of migration and could confidently identify and share their knowledge about various migratory birds. Their curiosity, active participation, and thoughtful responses made the interaction especially engaging and left a positive impression on the distinguished speaker.
