Self Discovery Week in classes 1 and 2

The fourth defining attribute of personalised learning is Self Discovery the process of students coming to understand themselves as learners.

At The Indian School, we strive for our wards to become self-directed learners, independent and confident. By helping them learn about themselves, we build strong and sensitive young citizens with ethical rudders.

The week commenced with a self-portrait by the children of classes I and II, who were encouraged to draw an impression of themselves on a sheet of paper. Another activity required them to complete sentences which brought out their personalities.

On the second day, class I students drew their favourite cartoon character and gave it a name. Meanwhile, class II children composed a list of their favourite things - food, animal, subject, cartoon and book- on strips of colourful paper.

Day 3 witnessed the little orators of class I speak a few lines on what made them happy. The nascent thinkers of class II donned their thinking hats to think about the ideal quality their favourite superstar possessed, which they then penned on a cut-out of a star.

The fourth day of the journey included an interesting list of adjectives that the tiny-tots of class I used, to describe themselves. The versatile speakers of class II engaged in a group activity that saw them expressing one good quality they possessed and one quality they wished they had! It was adorable to watch the exuberant children introspect in all seriousness and make a commitment towards inculcating a specific quality-cum-behaviour.

Day 5 celebrated 'Key to Self Love' - a key to happiness! The budding poets of class II wrote short poems and pasted pictures of things that made them happy. The children were encouraged to love themselves which is the first step towards inner happiness. The joyful voyage of self-discovery culminated with a display, at the front reception, of the literary and art work, composed and created during the week.
