Senior science students visit the 13th IIT Open House
On 22nd April, 2017, a group of science students of classes XI and XII went to IIT Delhi with senior science teachers, to attend the 13th Open House held by IIT.
The event was inaugurated by Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, director-IIT Delhi. One, Mr. P.V. Madhusudhan Rao made a brief presentation on how technology can benefit differently-abled people, especially the visually impaired.
The exhibition was then thrown open to school students and the general public.
Students viewed a variety of science exhibits and learnt about the numerous research facilities. The exhibits were based on concepts of Physics like holography (creating holograms) and magnetic levitation, which were quite interesting. The students also viewed the glass blowing technique, used to create glass apparatus and the creation of plasma for various purposes.
The students got introduced to several new things which greatly excited their curiosity. There were many chemistry experiments being showcased, based on simple but intriguing concepts, like sublimation, surface tension of liquids, viscosity, and other simple reactions. An aeromodelling workshop had also been organised for students. Then, there was a robotics' section which displayed many creative ideas in the field. Finally there was also an astronomy quiz in which students participated with enthusiasm.
The experience was extremely informative and helped students view a longer horizon of science in general.
