Social Entrepreneurship, a talk by Samit Tandon.

On the 21 November, 2012, students of class 11 attended a workshop on Social Entrepreneurship by Mr. Samit Tandon who runs Bluelotus Advisory, a managing consultancy firm.

Mr. Tandon started by introducing the terms, Society, and Entrepreneurship, separately. He then, using several examples, explained the basics of what social entrepreneurship entails.

It is, he said, an enterprise that works for society, yet, with a profit-motive. Even a profit-maximizing firm as big as Reliance Industries, helped the society indirectly by providing employment to millions. How would economic principles be applied to the process of providing benefits to society, we wondered.

It was a fairly interactive session, with views and ideas coming from students. Mr. Tandon, impressed as he was by the discussion, asked to meet us again. Leaving us with food for thought, he asked that we too come up with ideas of social enterprises of our own.
