Special Assembly for Janmashtami by 5A

Festivals are characterised by colour, gaiety, enthusiasm, prayers and rituals.

A special assembly was conducted by class V-A on 22nd August, 2014 on the occasion of Janamashtami, a festival which commemorates the earthly arrival of Lord Krishna.

The assembly began with the recitation of some popular shlokas from the Bhagawad Gita by Paakhi and Gauhar in Hindi and English respectively. This was followed by Zunairah and Yuvraj talking about the story of the birth of Krishna and how He became the child of Vasudev and Yashoda. Dhairya spoke on how Janamsahtami or Gokulashtami is celebrated as Dahi Handi in Maharashtra. Her classmates energetically enacted the scene with a human pyramid! Shobit broke the earthen pot. The audience was also told about how the festival is celebrated with pomp and gaiety all over India.

To Sarvagyas message, the students who were dressed as devotees, gently tugged at the string of Krishna's cradle which carried an image of bal krishna.

Anushka , as narrator, described the incident where young Krishna, enacted by Arnie, stole the butter prepared by the Gopis and his mother, an exasperated Yashoda, enacted by Paakhi, ran behind him with a stick!

A melodious bhajan , composed by Sanjeev Sir and sung by the choir, added solemnity to the occasion.

Little girls dressed as gopis, Chhanak as Radha and Kanishk as Lord Krishna did the raas leela to music by Madhav Sir. The show-stealer was Aryan playing the Krishna arti on his casio and Lakshay playing the flute to a melody of the occasion.

The assembly concluded with a message from Dev on the significance of Janamashtami as ba festival which encourages goodwill and togetherness.
