Special Assembly on Baisakhi, class 3B.

In keeping with our tradition of celebrating all festivals with fervour and gaiety, the children of class IIIB organised a special assembly to mark Baisakhi on Wednesday 6th April 2016.

The assembly commenced with the hymn, Tum jal thal mein. A few students then came forward to recite a poem Dharti ke aanchal mein revering the abundance of Mother Earth.

Baisakhi is a festival that marks the onset of a new season. It is also a time to reap crops and therefore, an occasion for celebration. The children came forward by turn to speak about this important festival. April 13th is also the day on which Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh guru, installed the Khalsa Panth. The children spoke about the contributions of this historical figure to the Sikh community.

A lively Punjabi folk dance choreographed by Madhav Jain dance teacher was also presented by the children to the beats of the dhol. It was a treat to see the children performing, dressed in traditional vibrant Punjabi attire.

The assembly concluded with Ms. Neena Maini, Head Teacher explaining why the occasion is consider d auspicious and why it is such a widely observed festival throughout north-west India.
