Special Assembly on Gandhi Jayanti- classes VI and VII
Gandhi Jayanti is observed by the entire nation to commemorate the birth anniversary of the father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Our students too celebrated Bapus 150th birth anniversary at School with zeal, enthusiasm and patriotic feeling on 1 October 2018.
The assembly began with a special tribute-lively anecdotes from Gandhijis life, in the form of a street play enacted by students of classes VI and VII. The dramatisation offered glimpses of the freedom struggle and the role of Mahatma Gandhi in it. It showed how Bapu used non violence to achieve his end. We were reminded of the sacrifices of the generation now passed which gave us our today.
The play began with the class choir singing Bapus favourite devotional song Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, followed by the children enacting incidents from his life such as the Quit India Movement, movement in Champaran, work for Indians in South Africa, the Swadeshi movement, the Dandi March etc. It spoke of values such as dignity of labour, social equality and self respect, so dear to Bapu.

The auditorium resonated with the now immortalised calls of Do or Die, Angrezon Bharat chodo, Karo Ya Maro used by Gandhi and the other freedom fighters of those times. The atmosphere seemed infused by the emotion aroused by the poignant period as it was played out.
The unforgettable Bande me tha Dum, Vande Mataram glorifying Bapu and his role was sung to sign out.
The assembly ended with the children playing Vande Mataram on the flute. It was both utterly evocative and humbling in its soulfulness.
