Sports' Day 2016

A resplendent show marked Sports' Day on 30th November, 2016. Parents, teachers and students assembled to exercise and reinforce the values of team spirit, sportsmanship, fair play and fitness.

Chief guest on the occasion, Ms. Soumya Gupta, Director Education, Government of Delhi, who was graced with the Prime Ministers Award for Excellence in Public Administration in 2011, was accompanied by Ms. Renu Sharma (Deputy Director of Education). The other dignitaries present included School Chairman, Mr. Prafull Goradia, Vice chair, Dr. Nayana Goradia, Director, Mr. Lal Raisinghani, Ms. Brinda Shroff and Ms. Madhavi Divan.

The School choir soulfully welcomed the enormous and enthusiasm-filled assembly with their specially composed Welcome Song, set to a fusion of Carnatic and Hindustani music played on a rich assortment of musical instruments by the astute School orchestra. The classical blended with the contemporary as the rhythmic drum beats by the School drummers in costume, next, amplified the excitement!

Appertaining to our Schools rich theme of the year Africa, students presented the striking and high energy Tribhangi dance which was a combination of traditional African and contemporary dance with bharatnatyam! The amalgam was a wonderful cardio workout for better circulation, increased body strength and finer balance even whilst it toned the muscles. The dulcet flute strung the drum beats in a great unity as the four houses, Chandra, Indra, Surya and Varun, majestically marched to the School band. The solemn oath ceremony was followed by the release of the 4 large bunches of house-coloured balloons, which gently caught the wind of freedom, as it were, to find love, hope, peace and accomplishment.

Ms. Gupta also applauded the holistic environment provided by our School in shaping the personality of its students.

The audience witnessed extremely deft levels of agility in athletics- 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres and the fun races. These were interspersed with the Pyramids' display, the African Rainsticks' drill by Primary, the Parachute drill and the kinetic Pom-Pom drill.

The atmosphere was electric and as dusk fell, all participants filed in once more, to fill the vast ground in their myriad costumes, each holding aloft, a luminous electric torch, vigorously waving at the delighted parents on the stands! The lights were dimmed, and lo! The spectacle of a vast spill of sparkle upon a dark floor..simply stayed- an unforgettable frame for posterity!

Principal, Ms. Tania Joshi greatly applauded the effort of the students, the teachers, the PTA body and the School staff for making the event a grand success. A vote of thanks and the Prize Distribution followed, to conclude the evening.
